The brief
Merchandising a framing solution for 35+ different printed products
Creator of beloved titles such as The Grand Budapest Hotel and Fantastic Mr Fox, Wes Anderson has developed an iconic style, personified by pastel hues and characters that are filled with personality. Over decades, this iconic filmmaker has collected a treasure trove of props, ephemera, and artwork, and finally it was all to be on display at the Design Museum in a single exhibition: Wes Anderson: The Archives.
After you journey through the 'Wes Anderson: The Archives' exhibition, you end up in the exhibition shop where you can buy an array of memorabilia including prints, postcards, and posters. We were asked to help merchandising insert a framing solution in the exhibition retail space, which consisted of:
- 35+ different printed products
- Eight sizes, from A5 postcards to 50 × 70 cm posters
- Portrait and landscape formats
- A layout that was still evolving as the shop came together
The solution
Living up to Wes Anderson's colour palette
Visually, Wes Anderson’s films are defined by carefully tuned palettes that shape mood and colour. Our framing couldn’t be neutral or generic — each print and poster was paired with a complementary Pop-up Frame colour that could complement the artwork without competing with it.
- Each print was displayed on the wall in a complementary Pop-up Frame colour.
- With artworks in many different shapes and sizes, we merchandised our framing solution alongside each print, ensuring everything was clear to the visitor.
- Since each frame comes with its own peel & stick wall mount, visitors could walk away with a print and a frame they could hang on the wall as soon as they got home.
