Sustainability
Good for your walls. Good for the planet.
At Pop-up Frames, we believe in creating products that enable creativity, look great, and are kind to the environment. We're committed to making picture framing far more eco-conscious.
Here's how we're framing responsibly:
Consider the whole production process
All Pop-up Frames are manufactured in the EU with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody and ISO14001 certified environmental management systems. We’ve reduced the impact of our production processes by removing excess materials, reducing waste and transport, and optimising packaging.
Source materials responsibly
Our Italian paper suppliers purchase pulp from controlled and certified plantations. Their procurement systems only include qualified and verified suppliers.
The use of timber from forests has been subject to regulations for many years and involves reforestation of the areas used for production on a 7-10 years cycle. The production of paper is subject to certification that it comes from sources that are managed responsibly for the entire ecosystem, including animals and local communities. One of the most important certification systems is the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) — 100% of the pulp used to make the Pop-up Frames product is FSC® certified.
Rethink transportation
Research shows that Pop-up Frames are 90% lighter compared to industry standard frames and our products are produced and shipped from Europe. That’s a huge reduction in transport emissions.
Minimise waste
Pop-up Frames result in an 82% reduction in waste compared to industry standard framing methods.
Smart packaging
Our packaging is flat-packed for maximum transport and storage efficiency, using sustainably sourced recycled e-flute board to minimise our environmental footprint. We have a single pack for each of our three framing products which has been specifically designed for both online and offline retailers with no additional packaging required.
The facts, figures, and sources
Knowing our impact is important to us. We commissioned a study that analysed life cycle inventory data to compare the environmental impact of Pop-up Frames with the vast majority of budget wood frames which are manufactured in China and Indonesia.
Amongst other eco benefits the research found that Pop-up Frames offer a substantial weight reduction of 90% compared to traditional materials significantly reducing its GWP (Global Warming Potential). In terms of waste generation and recyclability, using Pop-up Frames resulted in an 82% reduction in waste potential.
